Acolyte

Adept
A witch or magickal practitioner who has achieved a high level of skill and knowledge in their craft, often guiding or teaching others.
Affirmation
A positive, present-tense statement used repeatedly to manifest desired outcomes by reinforcing belief and intention through repetition. Affirmations are the seeds of manifestation—repeat them with belief, and watch your magick unfold.
Air
One of the four classical elements, associated with the East, intellect, communication, creativity, inspiration, and new beginnings.
Alchemy
An ancient magickal and philosophical tradition focused on transformation, both spiritual and material. Most famously, alchemists sought to transmute base metals into gold, but the true essence lies in the quest for personal enlightenment and inner change.
Alexandrian
A tradition of Wicca founded by Alex Sanders, emphasizing ceremonial magick and structured rituals.
Altar
A sacred space—be it a table, shelf, or corner—dedicated to your spiritual work. Your altar holds tools, symbols, and intentions, serving as the heart of your practice and providing a focal point for spells, meditation, and honoring deities or ancestors.
Amulet
A charged object, often carried or worn, imbued with protective or empowering energy. Amulets are typically used to deflect negative energies and act as portable magickal allies.
Anoint
The act of applying oil or water to a person, animal, or object to bless, consecrate, or imbue with magickal energy.
Animism
The belief that everything in the universe—plants, stones, rivers, animals—possesses a spirit or consciousness. Animism encourages respect and reverence for all living things and is foundational in many magickal traditions.
Arcana
Refers to the two main divisions in a tarot deck: the Major Arcana (22 cards representing significant life themes) and the Minor Arcana (56 cards reflecting day-to-day events and influences).
Archetype
Universal symbols or images that represent deities, energies, or concepts in forms we can understand and work with magickally.
Asperger (Aspergillum)
A bundle of herbs or tool used to sprinkle water for purification before, during, or after rituals.
Astral Plane
A parallel, energetic realm—for spiritual insight, healing, or connection with guides and energies.
Astral Travel

Athame

Baby Witch

Banish/Banishing
The act of sending away unwanted energies, influences, or entities from a person, object, or space, often using ritual or visualization.
Bell
A tool used to clear energy, mark the beginning or end of rituals, or call in spirits and deities.
Beltane
A vibrant sabbat celebrated on May 1st, marking the height of spring’s fertility and the promise of abundance. A time for joy, creativity, and honoring the earth’s renewal.
Besom
A traditional broom, often crafted from twigs, used to energetically cleanse spaces before ritual. Sweep just above the ground to clear away stagnant energy.
Binding
A spell or ritual intended to prevent someone from causing harm to themselves or others, or to restrict negative influences.
Blessing
A prayer, ritual, or gesture that calls in positive energy, protection, or favor from the divine.
Blue Moon
The second full moon in a single calendar month; considered especially powerful for magick.
Boline
A practical, white-handled knife used for cutting herbs, cords, or carving candles—distinct from the athame, which is reserved for energetic work.
Book of Shadows

Cakes & Ale
A ritual of sharing food and drink at the end of ceremonies to ground energy and honor the earth’s abundance.
Candle

Cartomancy

Chalice

Chakras
The body’s seven primary energy centers, each with unique qualities:

Daemon/Daimon

Dedication

Deity

Deosil
Moving clockwise, symbolic of life, growth, and positive magick. Deosil movement is used to attract, invoke, and bless.
Dispel
To remove or drive away negative energy, influences, or entities from a person, object, or space.
Divination
The art of seeking insight or guidance through tools like tarot, runes, pendulums, or scrying. Divination helps you connect with your intuition and the unseen.
Dowsing
Using a pendulum or stick to locate objects or answer questions through subtle energy responses.
Drawing Down the Moon
A ritual to invoke the Goddess, often performed by a High Priestess in a coven setting.

Earth
One of the four classical elements, associated with the North, stability, grounding, material matters, and abundance.
Elementals

Familiar

Fire

Handfasting

Hedge Witch

Herbalism
